Nail Trims
Claws and nails are essential for animal survival. Active animals usually wear down nails naturally. If you hear clinking when your pet walks or you are tired of getting scratched, it is probably time to get those nails a little shorter. Once a month nail trims are the standard for most dogs and cats. Keeping up with routine trims can make the nail shorter in time by regressing the blood and nerve supply, the quick. The quick is the part you don’t won’t to cut.
Nail trims and touching feet should be part of training kittens and puppies to help reduce anxiety during nail trims. Our team understands regardless of training some pets do not like their feet touched. We do everything we can to reduce fear and anxiety during trim nails. We don’t believe in using force to perform procedures. Our team can discuss approaches to make trimming nails a more positive experience.
We offer nail trims using a clipper based on nail length and pet’s behavior. We can also provide a short training session for you to learn how to trim nails yourself.

Anal Gland Expression
Scooting? Foul odor? When your pet drags it’s rear across the floor, you may think it’s funny but the behavior can be related to an anal gland/sac issue. Dogs and cats have two anal glands or sacs inside the anus that fill with a smelly fluid. The sacs should express or expel the fluid with muscle contraction during defecation, times of stress, or for territorial marking.
Some anal sacs fill-up and can’t be expressed naturally due to stool issues, breed, genetics, or medical problems such as infection or impaction. Glands should be checked at the first scoot.
Our Neighborhood Vet team expresses glands internally and can address any medical issues. Groomers typically express glands from the outside for routine maintenance. We don’t recommend expressing glands at home since expression can be painful and ruptured sacs can happen. Leave it to the pros.

Sanitary Clip
Long haired pets are at risk for developing mats and becoming dirty under the tail. You don’t want us to trim your pet completely…think trimming your own bangs. We are not groomers but we can do brief trims to remove a mat or two or to trim the fur under the tail. Sanitary Clips or Potty Cuts can reduce the risk of skin irritation and infection.
