What is Primary Vet Care?
I started my veterinary career as a cage cleaner in a vet hospital/feed store that had the endearing smell of wet dog and hay. The veterinarians saw everything big and small. Many procedures were performed with the owner helping. This is back when the dog kennels where outside and patient records were written on index cards. Today, I am happy to say veterinary hospitals and care have come a long way. The advancements in veterinary medicine continues and the need for continued change is apparent.
Traditionally, veterinary hospitals provided everything: vaccines, emergency care, surgery, hospitalization, etc. With advancements in science and technology, veterinary medicine is more diverse. Specialization in specific subject areas, just as in human medicine, is more mainstream. Specialists are readily available for our pets now, thankfully, but general practitioner veterinarians are still the first line source for all the pet’s needs. General practitioner veterinarians act as neurologists, cardiologists, ophthalmologists, surgeons, internists, radiologists, immunologists, pathologists, dermatologists, behaviorists, etc. etc. etc. Today’s veterinary medicine is advanced and pets are part of the family. It is not possible for a veterinarian and team to provide all services efficiently and affordably, while maintaining high standards and values. Something has to give!
I created Neighborhood Vet to become the specialists of primary and preventative care. We focus on the common reasons pets need medical attention and preventing illnesses. Physical exams, vaccines, preventative medication and testing, and education are the fundamentals of keeping your pet healthy. For non-urgent or non-emergency illnesses and disorders we are the point of entry in the vet care system. If more advanced care is needed we can point you in the right direction. We serve as your first source for veterinary care and information.
Without the cost and maintenance of surgical suites, hospitalization, and xray machines we are able to pass the savings to you. Financial costs are barriers to providing the care your pet needs. Our approach gives more pet owners the ability to afford veterinary costs. Our team’s sole focus is on you and your pet in the exam room. We do not have hospitalized patients or surgeries that take attention away.
Primary vet care enables us to provide the traditional customer service values to you and the modern advancements of preventative medicine. I’m confident you will see our difference and our joy in helping animals. We look forward to serving you and your pet. Come visit us at Neighborhood Vet in Savannah, GA.
